After decades of supporting roles and character parts, iconic US actor Harry Dean Stanton passes away at the age of 91.

The actor suddenly won the spotlight with his breakout role in Palme d'Or-winning ‘Paris, Texas’ by German filmmaker Wim Wenders. Stanton had been playing mostly bit parts until that point

Stanton was born in 1926 in rural Kentucky, the son of a tobacco farmer.

His feature film and series credits, other than ‘Paris, Texas’, include titles such as ‘Wild at Heart’, ‘The Green Mile’, ‘The Godfather II’. ‘Big Love’, ‘Alien’, ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ and Repo Man’.

Two biopics made about the actor include ‘Harry Dean Stanton: Crossing Mulholland’ (2011) and ‘Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction’ (2012).

The legend died of natural causes Friday in Los Angeles. Tributes have since poured in for Stanton on social media platforms.
